Re: A Place Trying To Stamp Out Methadone Use Via Petition!! Input Needed!!

i understand, but when i read it, they are saying either/or

imo, the problem is not that they would do away totally with take home,

but rather that they absolutely, positively, insist on 'something' being
done, yet don't have a solution for the cost of a safe or other security
device which most low income can't afford,

and those that 'are' abusers wouldn't use one anyway,

so in effect, the petitioners throw out the baby with the bath water.

good purpose, bad solution

See, this was my sticking point....if they propose eliminating take
home doses, what about those of us on 8-hour dosing? Would we have to
drive to the pain doctor's office to get the meds? I'd have to go
over an hour each way, and I take my first dose at 4am. A pill safe
is okay if they provide it...some places count the meds, which is just
as good. And again, in the case of a pill safe, what if you're going
to be gone from home when the next dose or two is due? How do you get
the meds? I was gone for 36 hours in a row right after my
granddaughter was born, and I've been gone over 12 hours at a time in
the past couple days being at the hospital with my daughter and
grandson. They need to be a bit more practical with these proposed
solutions unless they plan on just locking us all up in a nuthouse and
taking our right to a halfway decent chance at living away from us.

I think if you show signs of irresponsibility things can be put into
place to correct that tendency but to just out and out asume that
everyone who takes a specific drug is at risk of addiction and
irresponsible usage once again puts the blame on us for being in pain
and labels us as drug-seekers without even being seen.

Everyone who takes pain medication takes risks. Everyone who takes
any kind of medication takes risks. I've had far worse effects from
anti-seizure meds and antidepressants of one kind or another than I
have from my Methadone. I'm sorry that some people aren't monitored
closely enough but to throw the baby out with the bath water doesn't
fix a darn thing.

We suffer enough of a stigma as it is having invisible disabilities.
