I forgot to add to Trisha's point. People that dont necessarily have
any conditions like us in here almost conditionally expect a script
when they go to the doctor, as if they arent getting their money's
worth otherwise. That doesn't apply to us as we are all in a situation
that requires regular meds, but the at large population do have mass
marketing's condition that tells them each aspect of life can be
perfect with this or that lil pill.

However, most people in "Chronic Pain", do suffer some type of
associated psychological pathology, yet many seldom seek any help in
that area, instead merely focusing on the physical symptoms.

There is a growing branch of Psychiatry focused on "Chronic Pain" and
even a board certification for those who practice it as well. There
is a school of thought that says one needs to treat the mind, body &
spirit.

"On a hot summer night, would you offer your
throat to the wolf with the red roses?"

I didnt exactly type that clearly, at least as i re-read it. I meant
it to read, people without an existing condition, disease or disorder,
go to the doctors with a myriad of complaints, runny nose, sore
throat, sprained ankle, yadda yadda, and they have been conditioned to
feel they have been cheated if a script isnt written, thus the growing
problem of antibiotic resistant strains of bacterial infections.
In so far as Anti-depressants, I know people have found them to be
very successful, my contention ...from my own reading, and my own
experience, is quite often they are dispensed at the very first visit,
no bloodwork or anything. To me that is a dangerous route, but for
those who have found the solution with them....God bless them, as I do
know the darkness of depression very well and anything that can help
solve that for someone is a good thing. As I said earlier Lamictal and
Tranxene, both seizure meds for me have had the bleesed side effect of
being very effective mood stabilizers....perfect?, no, but Ive not
found perfection in any pill. I also believe in Psychological "talk
therapy"...Im nnt much on CBT and the like, I just find it to be nice
to have a long standing medical relationship with a qualified pro that
you dont have to constantly re-hash with, and just talk through
problems with, and it has helped me gain insight for myself for both
CP related depression and regular Clinical Depression, along with some
other conditions. So yes in this I agree, ZW I do believe in treating
the whole person, and I do utilize meditation, prayer and imagery as
tools to augment pharmacological treatment. That is just good sense to
keep the balance, "does the body rule the mind or does the mind rule
the body"? I also agree that many dont and could gain much help from a
more holistic approach to CP....and yet Im still very anti-voodoo.
