"universal health care " ONLY works because of long
waits...rationing..etc...btw..those who think OUR drug choices are
limited
(with insurance)...try Canada and the UK...then you will understand
limited...also BTW..in Canada they pay for their drugs...so do
Australians
OK. You perhaps wanna believe that the Canadians and maybe English,
Dutch,
etc just stand around and watch patients die. I think it's mostly/all
propaganda. Waiting lists exist everywhere. Waiting lists are a
function
of organization and efficiency.
OK...let me try to make it clearer...
waiting lists have NEVER existed for me...I have always had PPO
coverage...since retirement entirely funded by our savings...since 2001
my
hubby has had a major MI..with stents and later CABG...also colon cancer
with a foot of his colon removed...
we did NOT get put on any waiting list for the surgery he needed...took a
few days to get all the necessary scans and pre op stuff...we were able
to
call the surgeon of our choice...got in that day (yep)..
Hawki, how can I inform you that you are one of the privileged few.
You are/were a med industry insider. You got to see the problems
from inside the belly of the beast. You wisely arranged heavy-duty
insurance, and it's working. I'm glad for you and your hubby.
But, really and truly, there -is- a larger problem, part of which
Sicko addresses.
the difference between Canada and the UK..is that "waiting lists" are
often
many many months long...
For non-essential services.
surely..if we want to see our PCP for a non emergent thing..like blood
pressure check...we take the next appt that is available..and it may be a
week hence...
Week??? Try scheduling for a Rheumy or Dermy or somesuch. But you
likely have inside contacts?
that is not the same thing as waiting ...say 10 months for
needed surgery of any kind...THIS is what happens in Canada....believe it
or
not...Canadians DO watch their citizens die waiting...what planet are you
on??
OK, you're stressed out. I'll finish this response and exit the
thread.
if you are over 55 in England..forget dialysis or transplantation as
well....
From a newspaper op-ed article in 2006:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
... Americans spend twice as much per capita on health care as the
21 other wealthiest nations per World Health Org. data.
The problem is, the US healthcare system is exquisitely well
designed to maximize profits but exquisitely poorly designed to
provide the best health care efficiently.
...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
The US med industry has more problems than the Chinese Army
can shake a stick at in a month of Sundays.
You find it acceptable? I don't.
In Ohio we've had a legishlator take a bus load of seniors north to Canada
to have their prescriptions filled. There was more than enough money
saved. Many people have been doing that om their own due to the disparity
in prices.
Top
good point top...Medicare part D is a huge scam..said so from day one..and
did not sign hubby up for it...
Canada is an option via mail order..his doc has no problem with this...
lately the $4 generics from Walmart etc have helped
as have samples!!!
personally am on Prevacid that my high priced insurance won't pay for...so
yep...did use an "inside connection" (actually the GI guy who operated on
hubby) who keeps me in samples..once I felt a bit guilty taking them..office
gal..so "don't worry..we can get more"...do NOT be afraid to ask for
samples!!!
And you know that's what I don't understand when people talk about R & D
cost. Do other countries not have to pay the R & D costs? I worked 7 years
for company that supplied chemicals to research facilities around the
world. There are some chemicals that cost out the wazzoo but that's not
true for all chemicals. Once I saw some of the prices I was amazed.
Something simple like sugar, same sugar you buy at the local store, would
cost 20 times what you would pay. What's the difference? That company said
it was pure. Pure my ***, a 50 lb bag of odinary sugar. That is only one
example of MANY. Now want to talk about R & D? Same for prices on lab
supplies. I understand that is only a part of the cost but that is paid
for chemicals and supplies.... what do they are the other expenses like?
