Re: Cost of Methadone

Dear Jeremiah,

I hope this doesn't get you too late, but first off welcome, you have fallen
in with more kindred souls than you can know, so don't lose track of us,
you're a perfect fit.
Methadone is dirt cheap. Even the $60 sounds high, even at a high dose. It's
so cheap they almost pay you to take it. It may diminish the Roxicodone, it
may not but stay on that too it will help the transition. The feel of
methadone is not the same as oxycontin, so even dosed properly, you may feel
a little "off" for a few days. But it will pass and you'll find it works
pretty damn good, even compared to OxyC. I found it almost controllable, you
could turn it off and turn it on as needed. It is different though and your
doc will have to write on the RX "for chronic pain" to appease the DEA if
you go over their rehab imposed limit of 100mgs a day.
You have taken it before, and I hate to spread any "urban myths" but there
has been some stories maybe true, maybe not, about sudden death from the
stuff. Being in pain for 10 years you know the deal, and maybe it was the
six pack they washed it down with. But a general check up is always a good
idea anytime you swap meds, and if you haven't had one for a while (like so
many of us who are just so full of Dr visits, it feels like one more will
make you bust open), it's a good excuse.
Keep in touch and let us know how it goes and what you think about it.

Wishing you much success--og

Hello everyone,

I have had chronic pain for 10 years.I have Medicare as I am on SSD. I
had to pay 3,800.00 out of pocket for my prescriptions because
Oxycontin costs so damn much. I am going to ask my PM doc to put me on
Methadone. I was on it once a couple of years ago, but I had a
different PM doc then and he had me at a way low dose and didn't give
me anything for Oxy withdrawl, so I went back on the Oxy because I was
nine kinds of MISERABLE.

Anyway, my PM doc now is top notch and I couldn't say enough wonderful
things about her. Does anyone know how much Methadone costs in
relation to Oxycontin? If I pay cash for my Oxycontin every month it
would be 1,200.00 Thats just crazy.

My pharmacist that I had upstate told me it is around 20-30 dollars a
month for a usual dosage.
I don't want to have to shell out another almost 4 grand next year
just to stay out of pain. Its hard enough being disabled and living in
New York City.

Thanks in advance to any one that can help.

Pain free blessings everyone,

Jeremiah
