Hi Jeremy, welcome to the group.. I'm on SSDI, too, and have
Medicare.. I applied for prescription drug cost help and got it,
joined the AARP prescription plan and am on Oxycontin and Oxycodone
--- doctor writes the generic so I'm not sure that it matters, but I
pay nothing for either script.. I looked at the cost of the Oxycontin
last time I got it filled and it was over $300. I'd suggest maybe
calling the SSA office and asking if you can get help with
prescription costs. I think you have to have both Part A and Part B,
but there should be some options for help for you, depending on your
income and cost of living, etc..
The generic Oxycontin is "Oxycodone HCL ER" and generic Oxycodone is
"Oxycodone HCL" - it might be all in how the doctor is writing the
script. I haven't had any experience with Methadone or any other pain
medication, as I'm kind of new to all of this, and I'm still
struggling with wanting my pain to be less than a 5, and I'm pretty
constantly at a 6-8 even with the meds. I'm not sure if this has
been helpful, but good luck and let us know how it all works out for
you.
Peace,
Melissa

Hello everyone,
I have had chronic pain for 10 years.I have Medicare as I am on SSD. I
had to pay 3,800.00 out of pocket for my prescriptions because
Oxycontin costs so damn much. I am going to ask my PM doc to put me on
Methadone. I was on it once a couple of years ago, but I had a
different PM doc then and he had me at a way low dose and didn't give
me anything for Oxy withdrawl, so I went back on the Oxy because I was
nine kinds of MISERABLE.
Anyway, my PM doc now is top notch and I couldn't say enough wonderful
things about her. Does anyone know how much Methadone costs in
relation to Oxycontin? If I pay cash for my Oxycontin every month it
would be 1,200.00 Thats just crazy.
My pharmacist that I had upstate told me it is around 20-30 dollars a
month for a usual dosage.
I don't want to have to shell out another almost 4 grand next year
just to stay out of pain. Its hard enough being disabled and living in
New York City.
Thanks in advance to any one that can help.
Pain free blessings everyone,
