Hi everyone,
I've just recently become a member of this group and trying to just
exist these days. I moved to the Saint Louis, Mo. area on 4.01.06 due
to a job transfer. A position for which I was pursued. 3 months and
2 weeks later, I was called into the office and told that my position
was eliminated. I FINALLY found another job but it was with a temp
agency. I worked there for 7 - 8 months and was told last Monday
that I couldn't report back to work. Prior to that, I was told by
management that I would definitely be offered a position and that out
of 13 - 14 positions they could fill, I was one of the few chosen. In
the mean time, I was having to deal with finding a good Pain
Management Doctor. I found the best PM doctor I've ever had since
dealing with all of this pain. Before going to see him, I knew I had
one bone spur on my spine, arthritis, osteoporsis, nerve damage in my
left shoulder area and issues with my SI joint. Since going to see
him, and due to his willingness to not only examine me, but to have X-
Rays done and 2 MRI's, I've discovered that I also have Degenerative
Bone disease at the base of my spine, multiple bone spurs along my
spine as well as "wedging" at the base of my neck. All of these
require surgery. So now, I'm out of work, out of health insurance and
still dealing with pain and the possibility of up to 3 surgeries to
fix the issues. I just don't know what I'm going to do. I've been
busy looking for work, in addition to applying for food stamps,
disability, unemployment and any other kind of assistance I can get.
I knew I would need help with next months rent so I called a local
charity that assists with rent. After the interview, I was informed
that I didn't qualify for rent assistance for 2 reasons. 1. I had no
income. 2. I'm not behind in my rent by at least 30 days. I am so
frustrated and feeling at a total loss. I have a friend in Michigan
that I talk to every week. She's retired but she is "loaded" with
money. In addition to pension and social security, she's got life
insurance money coming in because she recently lost her sister. I
asked her if there was any way she could help financially and I would
pay her back as soon as I could. She flat out refused to help. Yet,
she consistently helps out a mutual friend with paying his child
support on occassion. She knows that I would pay her back. She's
absolutely not hurting for money as she's making more money now than
she did when she was working. I just don't know what to do. In
addition, the insurance I had while working for the temp agency is
refusing to pay any of the claims from virtually any medical provider
I went to see. I just feel like everything is coming down on me all
at once and that I've got no options. I don't have any family and
have to support myself. I've got no one that I can depend on at all.
If anyone lives in the Saint Louis, Mo area, do you know of any
resources I can take advantage of?
Thanks for letting me vent!
Sharon
