Re: Don't know what I'm going to do.

Hi Sharon, welcome to the group.. I'm glad you found us. This group
has been amazingly helpful since I started coming/posting here, so I
hope you stick around, too. I'm sorry to hear about your situation,
and I've been there.. though mine was a little different.. I had been
suffering for years with pain, no insurance, going to various ERs for
care and being treated over and over again like a drug-seeker, which
I'm gathering is quite common with CP sufferers.

After I was taken out of work by a doctor in March 2005, I lost my
health insurance (through the job), but was able to get MaineCare
(Maine's Medicaid program) because I qualified for Food Stamps, and I
think it's automatic to get health care when you're on food stamps, so
I would very much encourage you to go to your local DHS office/city
welfare office, apply for food stamps, and see if you can get Medicaid
that way. I've never heard of anyone being denied Medicaid because
they're "not sick enough".. I'm not sure if it differs from state to
state, but wow.. that is really weird!

Also, I know here in Maine there are many low-cost health care
clinics, that will treat you even if you're not homeless. They're
mainly for low-income people who don't have health insurance.. If
there is some kind of crisis line, or information line there, I'd
suggest you try calling and asking for some resources. Here, we have
774-HELP and 211Maine, both will give me information about services
available here anytime, day or night. I'd think that most states
would have something like this, if not, they should.. If you haven't
already, you might be able to find a caring, compassionate doctor who
will treat you and let you make payments.. Due to your circumstances,
I'm sure there's got to be someone out there who would care enough to
help you out.. Are you going to be collecting unemployment for the
time being? That at least would give you some income while you're
looking for other work.. Also, I know that I've gone to the city
welfare office before and was given help for medications that I
needed.. Not sure about doctor's visits, but it can't hurt to ask..

Please keep us posted and good luck. If you do some searching, I'll
bet you'll be amazed at how many services are out there.. you just
have to look hard for them. And, if worst comes to worst, you could
ask your friend for a loan. It sounds like she'd be more than happy
to help you out. My thoughts are with you and I really hope you can
get some care soon. Don't be a stranger.. most of the people here are
truly caring, compassionate, knowlegable and very, very helpful.
Take good care,
Melissa

Hi everyone,

I hope that this finds all are doing ok and are able to manage their
pain as best as possible. This is my first post to the group and
looking for resources. I recently moved to the Saint Louis area -
Actually 04.01.06 is when I moved here. I moved due to a job transfer
for which I was pursued. I had worked for the company for about 6
years. It was a great position as I was able to grow my skill set and
learn so much. Unvortunately, 3 months and 2 weeks into the job, I
was informed that my position was eliminated. I had moved here for
nothing. At least that's how it felt. In the mean time, I had been
looking for a new pain management doctor as well as a primary care
doc. Could never find a good doc. I started to work for a temp
agency on 10.13.06 and got new insurance. I then was able to find an
absolutely wonderful primary care doc and he referred me to the best
pain management doc that I had ever been to in the whole time I'd been
treated for the chronic pain. He did more for me in 3 weeks than I've
had done in 3 years. I found out through X-Rays and 2 MRI's, that I
have wedging in the neck, multiple bone spurs and degenerative bone
disease at the base of my spine. All of which require surgery. All
of this in addition to the arthritis in my spine, issues with my SI
Joint, Osteoporosis and nerve damage in the left shoulder area due to
a car accident that I had 12 years ago. I've had so many issues with
the new insurance and am now appealing because they're not wanting to
pay for any of the services rendered by none of the providers I had
gone to see. Last Monday, 05.14.07 I had gone to work and everything
was fine. I got home about 5:00 from work and at 5:15 received a call
from the recruiter at the Temp Agency. I was told that I wouldn't
need to report back to work and was not given a reason for the
discharge. I no longer have Health Insurance and don't know what I"m
going to do. Fortunately, I have enough medication to last for a
couple more weeks but I don't know what I'm going to do after that. I
had gone to see the wonderful pain doctor a week ago Wednesday and we
talked about doing epidurals to see if that would help releive some of
the pain. My Health insurance ended yesterday and was not able to get
in to see the doc this week due to his tight schedule. I don't
qualify for Medicaid because according to the State of Missouri, I'm
not sick enough. I tried to get help with next months rent and was
told that I couldn't get help for two reasons. 1. I don't have an
income. 2. I need to be at least 30 days behind in my rent. I can,
to some degree, understand the first reason. If I don't have an
income, it would kinda' be like the agency throwing their money away
because I wouldn't have enough money to pay for the next months rent.
However, I'm just so fruatrated. I have a friend in Michigan who has
a boatload of money. She could've easliy sent me a couple thousand
dollars and wouldn't even make a dent in her bank account. She knows
my situation and knows that I am in a desperate place. I
I am just at a loss because I have all of these medical issues, don't
have a job, no health insurance and don't know how I'm going to get
the medication I will need once I run out.
Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can go or what I can do?
Thanks for any input you can provide.

Sharon
