Re: The painful truth

Hey Joe,

You gotta start thinking less serious man. You're going to tie yourself in
knots and go nuts if you can't find some humor in some of this ***. Just a
suggestion.
You asked a heavy question, Ill try to give you and equally heavy answer.
First and foremost, I like to think of this group is a place to find truth.
My tried and true example fits best with things like injections to block
pain. Docs don't lie when they say it's painless. It sure is- for them. Ask
anyone in here that had them, you'll get differing opinions on how bad it
hurt, but no one's going to say it's a painless ordeal. So truth is big. Why
bull*** when you are relatively anonymous.
Next important thing is help. You can call it support too, since it's in the
name of the group. We have people that come here, whether it's to post or
troll that are scared. Scared shitless. Suddenly the body that has been your
ally for decades decides one day to turn on you. Can it be fixed and how
long and expensive will it be? What do I expect? And there's always some
poor soul who's doctor heard "chronic pain" and decided to retire. CP
patients are hung out in the wind more than any other medical problem I can
think of. Suddenly you're without any real support in the real world, alone,
without a clue what to do next except hurt or french kiss the shotgun. Which
brings me to the next thing.
People need to know they aren't alone in the difficult times. Somebody has
walked a mile (and then some) in their shoes. Don't screw up like I did,
avoid doing "a" and don't get chumped in to putting up with "b".
The most important thing is probably the last - people survive this. That's
my high or buzz or whatever you want to call it. People do get better and
leave. I'm a lucky guy inspire of feeling like *** a lot of times and
having my life pretty much ruined, at least till I drop dead. I see things
in here that are miracles.
I wish we all looked at each other as family. You don't necessarily have to
love a brother or a sister, or even agree about anything. But if someone
screws with my brother or sister, they best make no mistake, I come along as
part of the package and will defend them, even if I hate what they say, they
have the right to say it. If it was moderated, that would be a little
different, but this is Lafayette Square, across from the White House on the
4th of July (the smoke in. I'm sure you recall a few) Law breaking is
acceptable as long as its in the name of protest.
The biggest downfall here is cohesiveness. "Write the DEA, they're trying
something stupid." It's the same people everytime that contribute. We're
short on participation by 2/3. Same lame excuses. They can spend 45 minutes
bitching at someone else in a thread, but to harangue their elected
officials is too hard. The dumbest part is everyone is on the same side of
the issue, it's all we can agree on. Instead they take the time to tell
everyone it doesn't matter, don't bother, it's a lost cause. If the other
66% jumped in with both feet we might start winning some battles, instead of
waiting for divine assistance with the war.
To make this group moderated could be the kiss of death. I'd love it to be
courteous, kind, and never to be heard a discouraging word. But it would
lose something (like the 1st amendment). And without pointing to anyone in
particular, especially since no one really pops in to my mind that I don't
get along with (because I usually stick to the topic and don't chase the
thread as it swirls down the toilet) whether they get along with me or not
is something else, but the loons and nutcases (who I still get along with
though many will not) show themselves to be what they are very quickly. Were
it moderated, it might take months or years to find out these people are a
few beers short of a 6 pack. Being totally open, it should take less that
two weeks to know who's worth reading and who's not.
The best part of it all, Joe, is when someone outgrows this place. After
decades of agony, the pain is gone, life is slowly coming back to normal and
they don't need this place any more. It's as rare as a $5 that shows Lincoln
wearing his hat, but it happens. To know you took part in that, even been
some real help in making it happen... there's just nothing to compare it
too. Surely no drug, no holiday, no fat check in the mail can compare. You
loose touch eventually, but that's not a bad thing, they're busy tasting
life again. And it renews hope for your own situation. It may never happen
and they'll bury me with a laptop still logged in here. But some of the
issues that people have battled back from, just from being there to remind
them just how really tough a fighter they can be, anything is possible for
any of us. Maybe that's the most important thing to do in here. Keep hope
alive. Nothing fancy, just keep hope alive and refuse to accept anyone
giving up. Your turn to get well could be next.
If I rambled I'm sorry. You know how wordy I can get. But if I didn't answer
the question enough or was too vague, let me know.

Have a good weekend--og

What is a "unmoderated' Chronic Pain Newsgroups MAIN topic? and group for?

being unmoderated makes it open game? chronic pain has a differnt meaning?
kids just can't control themselves?

let's try and keep this civil and on topic, NO flame throwers please...

if you just can't bring yourself to answer honestly and truthfully just
leave it alone thanks...Joe

this is an honest question, absolute not trying to start anything, just
your views of what a newsgroup is for and what the group name means to it?
