Hi. I have a physical problem that's not CP related (that I know of)
but, since a lot of you have multiple problems, I thought I'd see if
anyone has any ideas.
I had a pretty bad case of the flu about 3 months ago. The symptoms
never really went away completely. But, now, I 've been having
sporadic, spikes in temperature, from 100 to 106.6 degrees.
My doctor wasn't in his office today. His NP, with whom I don't get
along, will be in tomorrow. the last time I saw her, she refused me
antibiotics for a urinary infection, saying I didn't "deserve" them,
since my blood sugar was high(I'm diabetic).
My sugar levels have vastly improved. I can usually tell that my
temperature is spiking by a case of the "shakes", or a dry mouth. The
spiked sessions seldom last for morethan two minutes.
Could it have been brought on by the epidural, which I had almost two
weeks ago? I hesitate to go into the hospital, as my regular doctor
and my pain doc are affiliated with different hospitals, and I know
how signals can get crossed. I could get someone to bring my pain
pills in to the hospital, but I only have about a week's supply (My
next scheduled appointment is next Thursday).
But, my temperature has been spiking progressively higher, and I can't
really wait. My symptoms are weakness, shakiness, headaches, and the
general feeling of having a bad cold. I haven't changed any
medicines, except for running out of the antibiotics that my PC gave
me about a week ago.
Any ideas or experiences?

Since you're a diabetic (I'll assume a T2?) I'd run away from that NP
immedately!
Saying that you don't "deserve" antibotics because you're glucose was
high? LOL
HELLO? did they fail that test? Infections cause a diabetics glucose to
rise, if anything
they should have given you a different stronger type. I'm sorry.
As for the temp. I've had the same thing happen several times (not sure
if it's the
same) but for me, it's a hell of a struggle with chronic pain, being a
diabetic and keeping
in check. When my pain increases, which I have zero control over, my
glucose naturally
increases. Have you been checking your glucose closely when you're having
a temp spike?
I find when I'm in a bit more then normal pain, that my temp will spike as
well as my BP.
Which as I said causes my glucose to rise, which gives me the weakness,
headaches and
overall feeling of blah (yes, like a bad head cold)(stuffy nose, runny
nose, soar throat..etc)
When I get everything back into check, then the symptoms go away. The
shakiness could
be caused from a few things. High bp can cause that, or low glucose. If
you've been running
higher then "normal" then coming down within normal range can cause
symptoms of a low
glucose. I finally buckled down and did extensive testing, documented it
in an excel *** and
printed it, taking it to my doctor which finally showed her what the heck
was going on and
really helped me figure out several things with me as well.
Just a thought.. like I said, it's very hard to handle cp and dm.
HTH and hope you get it sorted out.
btw.. I'm a T1 with 3 other autoimmune issues along with chronic pain.- Hide quoted text -

Thanks for answering, rk. I'm T2, as you guessed. I usually spike in
the mornings, before eating, when my sugar is fairly low. But that's
not a hard-and fast rule.
I'll take what you said into account. Today, so far so good. Thanks
again
