Dear Matt,
You should get 12 hours out of it, amazingly enough. But they botched the
conversion table, so be prepared to adjust upwardly. Just my personal
experience with this medication, as is my opinion that the IR version sucks.
Your experience will be different.
As far as the drinking, just go slow and easy with it. I don't think the
reason that Palladone (Dilaudid ER, more or less) was yanked was really the
alcohol issue and instant release issue, it was strictly "political BS". The
release agent in Opana is not similar to anything yet used in the in the
pain relief world, though it has been used other medications to make
extended relief versions of a lot of other drugs and plans to put in a lot
of other drugs. I don't think a beer a week will make your urine purple or
cause your head to pop off. Just go easy. As they say on most pain contracts
"drive at your own risk and do not operate heavy machinery until you know
how this medication effects you." So leave the bulldozer home for a while.
Best of luck with it--og

Was just prescribed Opana Er 20mg. I see that it is new. Has anyone
had any experience with this? My doc said that all of his patients
have said that it's worked real well. I was taking 20mg dilaudid per
day. Hoping this will take over for that. It's nice to finally have
a time-released med. Couple of q's: Does this one really last 12
hours? I've read in here that many have to take 12 hour meds every
8. I asked the doc if it lasts 12 hours and he answered a resounding
yes...so I don't think I'd ever be able to change it to 3x/day. I
still have some dilaudid for break-thru just in case. Also, is this
an absolute no no with alcohol like palladone? I usually have one
glass of red wine every Friday at our weekly family dinner. It has
never reacted badly with any of my previous meds. But I'm
worried...would this release all the dose at once? Any thoughts/
experiences appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
