Re: quitting

I don't see this as a viable option. With the nicotine patch, you are
only substituting the delivery method of the same dependent ingredient
of cigarettes(nicotine). So you're getting the same drug, just in
different form. The purpose is to help you break the psychological
habit...fingers to mouth, inhale, exhale. And also to allow you to
taper down slowly from the nicotine by using less powerful
patches...which you can't really do with cigarettes. I speak from
experience as I used the gum (same idea) to quit smoking 5 years ago.
I couldn't have done it without it.

Apply that idea to narcotics...you'd have to have a patch which
contains a narcotic, which is kind of redundant. It would be the same
idea as the current way to get off narcotics...a taper down schedule.
And anyway, I wouldn't want to get off the meds if it meant all that
pain coming back. But I guess you did said some might have personal
reasons.

For those of you living with long term non terminal chronic pain who
are taking Oxycontin or MS contin etc.. and now you wish to quit for
your own personal reasons but you don't know how to stop because of the
grip these pills has, I have a idea. What about a Patch created to help
with the withdrawal just like the nicotine patch. would this be a viable?

I agree with Matt: Quote: "I wouldn't want to get off the meds if it

pills produce as strong of an addiction as Oxy. I'm happy to take what
little morphine I'm prescribed because it really does help me to bare
out my pain.
