Finally after 3 years of dealing with the pain from A/C joint
osteoarthritis (on the right side) my doc finally scheduled me for
surgery yesterday.
Have to wait a month but - an end is finally in sight.
Tried over 6 cortisone shots in the past year and a half or so - they
were not working for the 3 month period - would only work a little
over a month for me.
My Orthopedic Surgeon said that this was "day surgery" - have not had
a chance to research this but he said it would not hurt for a couple
of hours afterwards because of the medications he uses but it will
hurt for up to 3 months afterwards and to expect about a year of
physical therapy.
Anyone out there have any tips?
I do not know if they do this for shoulder procedures but ask if they
can give you a pain pump to help with post surgery pain. a small
catheter is placed in the joint that feeds pain medication into the
joint for either two or three days then you gently pull out the
catheter yourself. A small spring loaded pump feeds painkilling
medication at a slow rate. I had this for a knee procedure and it
really minimized the local post op pain. It seems that post op pain is
at its worst for two to three days following the procedure.
