As most of you know, my Aunt was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in
March of this year. Her health has continued to decline as this
monster has taken control of her body and her mind. She doesn't know
any of us and can barely mumble. She sleeps most of the time and has
gone from 135 pounds in March, down to 71 pounds now. The hospice
nurse told us today it would be just a matter of hours or possibly a
day or two. To see her like this is really sad. She was always
dressed to the nines, make up, jewelry, all in place and perfect
looking. To see her now, you would never know the vibrancy she once
eluded.
The tumor has actually broken through her side. I've never heard of
this happening before. She is just skin and bones and the tumor has
grown so large it had no where to go but outside her body. The smell
is really bad. This is devastating to my mother, as this is her
younger sister. You walk into the room she's in and the smell is
really bad. We lost my Dad to Mesothelioma cancer, which was totally
different in how it presented itself. He never did lose any of his
mental faculties. Even though he lost a tremendous amount of weight,
he did not become emaciated as my Aunt has. She is no longer taking
bites of food or
sips of water. My mom had her pastor go today and visit with her. I
think more to bring comfort to my mom, than anything else. Watching
my mother go through this pain is really difficult.
Pancreatic cancer has to be one of the most vicious of all cancers. In
most cases, by the time it is diagnosed it's too late to survive.
Guess I'm just babbling, it's very difficult to see someone you love
and care about losing their battle for life, in such a horrible,
dignity robbing way.
Thanks for listening....
Sue
Wow, Sue. That really sounds awful.
I hope it doesn't sound bad to say that I'd be praying for her to go
very soon so that she can be at peace.
