Thanks for your quick reply. The more I read on the subject,
especially about the surgery, the more nervous I become. I should not
have looked at those photos of gallstones still in the gallbladder...
I hope they'll give me some medications to calm me down before the
surgery, if there is one. I hope I can sleep tonight. :) Don't they
use ultrasound to destroy the stones? Thanks again.
Well, I was sedated prior to prep for surgery. The sedation was so strong
that it knocked me out, so I don't even recall being taken to the OR and
intubated (which is real fun for me due to an unusually small jaw. They use
mirrors and a child size device.).
This is really one of the simplest routine procedures out there. I have
heard of ultrasound on kidney stones, but I don't know if the procedure
works on gallstones as well. Gallstones are made from different materials
then kidney stones, they may not be so easy to pulverize.
Really, gallbladder surgery is not so bad. Now having a ruptured appendix
with acute peritonitis is hell, I wouldn't wish that on anybody. I could
only wish it would have been as simple and uneventful as the gallbladder
removal. I spent 8 days hospitalized after the appendectomy. :-(
