I found a laxative that works well & isnt nasty to take!

After many many many tries, and ending up w/a buncha laxatives that were either nasty-tasting or had a texture that was awful, or something else to that effect, my doc prescribed "Polyethylene Glycol 3350, NF Powder for Solution" (PEG) to mix w/water and make myself a daily laxative to control my opiate induced constipation. It sez on the label that its a generic substitute for "Miralax Powder" which Ive never tried, so I cant compare it. This stuff, the generic PEG, is a big ole fat white bottle of essentially tasteless white powder that easily dissolves into whatever Im drinking (usually Crystal Light or something in the sugar free department), doesnt really require much liquid for the solution (6-8 ounces, altho my doc said I could use less liquid when making it up if I drank something else immediately afterwards to make up for the liquid I left outta the solution). And it doesnt 'gunk up' the liquid if it sits for a few minutes like other things you can put into liquid and use (like metamucil, for example)!
Ive been using it for just over a month now, and I feel comfortable in finally saying that I like it and that it works great, and doesnt gag me or make me dread having to take it at all, doesnt create a "gotta go right now" panic, and so I think Ive finally found what its gonna take for me to remain 'regular' on these darned pain meds! It hasnt even caused me to have gas, and hasnt made my blood glucose change or anything else so far either!!
Just thought I'd pass this on, esp. since Ive been looking for a good laxative for my opiate-induced constipation for ages now, and I know Im not the only cp'er in that position.
I also learned something funny about this stuff (PEG), and thats that one of my close friends is married to a woman who owns & runs a beauty salon-spa, and she creates allot of her own treatment creams, etc., and she said she uses PEG in what looks like an identical form, in some of her treatment creams for her clients! I just hope someone doesnt overuse it! Theyll be in for a surprise!
(j/k, for those without a sense of humor or is looking for an excuse to write some long, drawn out post about how it couldnt happen that way.)
