Hi Kids...
My doctor has decided that the best bet is now OxContin 40 mg/3x a day
Does this sound better?

Be honest......honesty is the best way to discuss anything with your doctor.
If your pain is well covered, let him/her know that. If your pain is not
well covered, let him/her know that also. Let him know you have great
concern about all of the APAP in the Percocets and would like to get away
from taking any APAP if at all possible. Also let him know you want that
liver scan done to make sure all the APAP ingested so far has not caused
liver damage.
Honesty.....I can't stress that enough. Honesty is key to builidng the
trusting relationship you need to have with the doctor who is giving you
pain relief. :-)

Hi OldGoat...
Thanks for the VERY kind words... I truly appreciate them.
Ok, a question for you, as well as the entire group...
I'm gonna call my doctor this morning (today is Friday). How do I come
out and ask for OxyContin or any of the other drugs you all recommended
without all of the "red flag-med-seeking" alarms going off????
Any answers will be GREATLY appreciated!

Dear Bob,
As you said, it's what you do, but even if it's "just saving people", I'd
just like to say thanks and ask you to pass it on.
You got a good sized problem going on with your
acetaminophen/Tylenol/APAP
intake. You're headed for liver or kidney problems before you get through
the first layer of skin.
A change to a more pure narcotic, less the add-ons (and yes I'm talking
things like oxycontin, methadone, all the bad press drugs) might put you
on
a lower dose and help the itching. Benadryl is an excellent idea, though
it
could make you over drowsy, but most of you shift guys I know hit the
coffee
pretty good too, so you may balance out. It should help the itch somewhat
as
well.
Keep the nails trimmed and filed and some kind of lotion to keep the
scratching to a minimum. If you have never heard of it, I suggest
"Cornhuskers Lotion", the stuff works great, but it's appearance may get
you
razzed. Looks like a solo sex act in a bottle, if you know what I mean,
but
it's clear, not too flowery, and will keep you from ripping yourself
apart.
Talk to your doc, get a liver function done and have him get you off
those
poisons like Tylenol and Advil.
Narcotics AS PRESCRIBED are among the safest of drugs there are. Most of
the
body bags with OD's in them haven't got a thing to do with doctors
orders,
that's the difference.
If you need anything or have questions, feel free to ask.
And Again, Thanks--og

Hi...
Lets get the part that upsets me the most right out on the table...
I am a State Police Detective Sergeant, retired at 42 by "buying" back
my military time. Anyway, as the subject line states, this is what I
take.
I was first put on "perc's" (5/325 1-2 every 6-8 hours as needed), 6
years ago to combat the pain of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I then was
stabbed in L-3 L-4 while making an arrest and after 4 surgeries the
dose was increased to "AS NEEDED".
And then September 11th... Disaster Response Unit/Urban Search and
Recovery and I reinjured.
No, I am not suffering from "John Wayne" syndrome... I help people;
thats just what I do.
So now I am "up" to 10-20 10 mg. per day... more if it's a bad day pain
wise.
I guess my question for now is this; I have been awake since Sunday at
about 0800 hours (8:00 am) and it is now 0501 hours. Perc's have
always been more of an "up" for me... is that normal?
And this, the g-damned itching! Is there something I can take?
Benydryl?
ANY responses will be appreciated
Bob
