Actually Ronnie, no one NEEDS to make this kind of exception, cuz theres no need for her to use all caps and no reason for anyone else to use em when they respond to her, if she'd just make the adjustments within her own software.

There are ways to set the size of the text in both news readers and browsers, so that posting in all caps isnt necessary for anyone with sight problems these days. There has been software made to accommodate sight handicaps of all kinds for years now, for both Macs & PC's (even linux), and the kind of help she needs isnt even the kind where she would have to purchase anything separately either. The ability to change the size of fonts is built into virtually all computers, unless she's got a computer & software from the 80's!

So since there are ALWAYS gonna be ppl coming here for the first time, seeing her posting in all caps, they are gonna be posting in response, often negatively, cuz no matter what the reason shes doing it, its considered poor netiquette, esp. when there are alternatives that would be FAR easier for her to read then using all caps, and none of those alternatives will offend others since they will be exclusively on her computer. No one else but her will even be aware!

The best analogy I can think of is if someone is hard of hearing and they attend a dinner party. Now it would be absurd to expect everyone to scream at the top of their lungs to accommodate the hard of hearing person when all the person needs is a hearing aid (and if they can afford to attend a dinner party, they can afford a hearing aid, esp. when there are the new ones that dont require a prescription that start at around $50 these days).

Well, there are all kindsa 'seeing aids' built into the operating systems and for ppl on computers. And its a bit odd for everyone to have to accommodate her special needs by using all caps when its traditionally considered rude to do it in that way, when she can change her font size with a few keystrokes and fix the problem permanently, and then she'll be able to read EVERYONES posts without them having to go against the netiquette thats been practiced on Usenet for many many years! I have no doubt that any number of ppl will be happy to give her the info she needs to change her font sizes in her news reader and browser so she can easily read every single post and web page she encounters.

Now tell me, why isnt solving her problem permanently a better way of handling things? And why isnt anyone here trying to help Andrea that way? Has the rift here become SO bad that ppl would prefer to use this woman by placing her in the middle of their games rather than help her solve her problem permanently so she wont be frequently confronted with ppl calling her rude and consider her yelling since new ppl are always gonna be coming into this ng who are offended by the use of all caps since its long since been considered BAD NETIQUETTE??? It really appears that some ppl here just wanna use this woman to play games, with absolutely no thought for her feelings as she continues to be abused as others come in and read her all caps posts! (and Im not talking about any of the 'regulars' here from either 'side'!) There are always gonna be strangers coming in here for the first time, or who havent been here in awhile who DO practice proper netiquette and they ARE gonna respond to her all caps posting--some politely, some not. So no one is doing Andrea any favors by not helping her get her browser & newsreader set up so she can read them without ANYONE having to use all caps, including her! Its highly unlikely that using all caps works helps her read any posts better than changing her computer font sizes is going to help!

How about we give her the help she needs to get her computer set up so she can see the letters better instead of leaving her as is and using her as some kinda rope in a tug o'war?????????????????
