Today I tripped over one of my dogs...she lay in a place she doesnt
normally lay, I guess just to be next to me, and shes a dark colored dog
and I have a dark colored carpet. A recipie for disaster! I ddint see
her till it was way too late and was already falling over her. I didn't
even really hit the ground that hard or anything, but I did hit and it
hurt like hell! I don't really have any bruises (yet) and Im not marked
up, but whats the worst is that now that its all done, I feel like I've
been mugged by someone weilding a baseball bat! I guess that when yer 50
yrs old w/fibro, arthritis and a few other disabling conditions, bouncing
back from even a simple fall isnt anything like when yer 20! Hell, I used
to wrestle, play football, ride horses, jog, and I've certainly fallen
before and hit HARD and just picked myself up, dusted myself off and
continued on! Ive never been left barely able to move shortly afterwards,
but I really dont fall every day either! I took an extra MSContin because
I am down to the last few days before my Actiq refill and only have a few
left and want to use them sparingly. I sure wish I could think of
something else that helps with this kind of pain. I did also take 2
excedrins, but otherwise I am at a loss for what to do to help the pain.
My SO is at work till later tonite, and by the time she finishes up and
drives home, it'll be nearly 9pm, so I dont feel safe taking a hot bath
till she gets here (I usually shower, which doesnt involve a slippery &
complicated getting in and out procedure), and I'd like a little relief
before then. With my difficulties moving, I am afraid of getting out of
the bath alone. It's been a long, long painful journey from being healthy
and independent to this pathetic shell of a human being!
If anyone has any ideas for OTC meds or other little home remedies that
help this kinda thing, theyd really be appreciated. My hip & left
shoulder, which are a major source pain anyways, are in agony. I feel
like theres metal shavings in those joints! It doesnt help that we've
been in the middle of a long run of rainstorms and the wet weather hasnt
helped me feel any better! If I didnt know better, I'd swear I was living
in Seattle with all the rain here lately!
Ive been debating whether to call the doc or not. I need to see the doc
anyways for a new refill in a few days, but hate to call even a day or two
early for fear they'll think I want early refills, cuz I'd rather ride out
the pain then have them thinking I am calling for early refills! But I am
somewhat wondering if the doc would want to see me since I got banged up
and my heath isnt very good, Im diabetic, and all. Any input, divinations,
psychic predictions, friendly comments, etc, are all welcome.
So please post yer ideas, suggestions, home remedies, recipies, secret
formulas (formulae?), or anything else thats pertinent, because I'm
hurting enuf to consider just about anything as long as its legal and
safe!
Thank ya'll!
Boy can I relate. My grandkids visited for Easter yesterday and my
granddaughter is at that age, 2 1/2. My goodness what a drama queen! Too
smart for her own good as well, her mom caught her climbed up on the dresser
in her bedroom and fiddling with the window screen, apparently she has been
out of the window and on the roof already! Needless to say, heavy duty
guards are now in place. Grandma, me, spent way too much time picking her
up and holding her, trying to stop the trantrum(s). She kicked and squirmed
so much I could not get out of bed at all today. Had to take maximum doses
of meds to make it through. Would I change anything about yesterday? a big
no. The egg hunt with the them and the flower (dandelions) picking and her
proudly shouting her last name, it is a tuffy for a 2 year old, make a day
or two of high level pain worth it. Like you Loose Cannon, I was so active
in my younger years and did so much with my kids - mom-son soccer games,
mother-daughter basketball games, plus all the stuff I did in my youth (we
honeymooned in the mountains in a tent with no cot/mattress and no running
water, let alone hot water!) and I could take a big hit and get right on up.
I personally think you were wise to wait on your SO and take the bath vs. a
shower. A relaxing bath, I find, does help relieve the pain some, plus
makes falling asleep when tender easier. Plus, if your tub is big enough,
and your SO can join you, well you get my drift. You are not a shell, just a
different body, one less able to jump around and such. Even without the
chronic pain and illnesses a perfectly healthy body ages and more often than
not abilities in youth are no longer available. Think of the positives and
what you can do! Sounds Pollyannaish but it can really help.
Good luck,
MB
PS - I certainly I hope you are OK, is the dog alright? Mine has the habit
of walking in front of me and suddenly stopping - I have had lots of trips
that way!
