Dear baldevsingh,
You may want to discuss the problem with your doctor. If you think they'll
act weirdly towards you for asking about this, don't. It doesn't happen as
much as it does with women, but men can get breast cancer too. It's probably
worse when we get it, since we don't do any exams and it's caught later, or
figure it's nothing.
You shouldn't be worried about your doc. If you aren't comfortable with your
current MD, you should look around till you find someone you're more
comfortable with. Most docs will have some kind of little biography they can
send you, so you can find out a bit about them before you try them. Older
than you, same age, younger, length of time in practice, Med School, any
special Medical interests, whether they're local or from abroad, they're
just a couple things to look at. Practice size is important too, you want to
get in when you need to. Ask friends or family members to suggest someone
(or someone to avoid. I'd never go to my Mom's doctor, she'd be butting in
all the time)
I don't know how old you are, but the older you get the more important it is
to be comfortable and be able to trust and talk to them. Exams just get
"more personal" as you get older and though most of us don't enjoy a
prostate exam, it's one of those things you gotta do, and you better trust
that guy with the greasy glove while you're bending over that chair.
Find a Doc you can talk with and not be self conscious about. I think you'll
find you won't ever tell them too much that they would find strange,
unusual, or something they haven't heard from other patients, or felt for
themselves before.
It may also help to remember that it is basically an employee (the
doc)/employer (you) relationship. You can fire your doc as easily as you
employed them, usually just needing a phone call to the insurance company.
You don't have to give any reason to anyone, it's all your call.
I wish you luck. It's probably nothing, but worth getting looked at. Better
safe than sorry and all that.
Take Care--og
