Re: Pain Management Doc - Central NJ

Dear Andy,

This is the kind of thing that's best kept to emails, or you may find
yourself a doctor, but won't be able to get in till July. I have nothing
specific for you, but the American Pain Foundation is usually a good place
to begin looking, and calling them is often better than email. Do not over
look links and you'll see why the web is a very accurate description of the
internet, but they all can take you to a resources for finding a doc. Give
them a try:
http://www.painfoundation.org/

Don't be so quick to pass by the ones that told you to look elsewhere. All
of them use medications in one form or another, so it's not too tough to
guess why they said that. They could be excellent docs and very liberal with
medications, but if they don't want to lose their practice, they won't be
talking about it, especially to strangers over the phone. And whatever is
the cause of the pain don't give up hope for a cure. These guys may just be
the guys with the magic.

Best of Luck--og

Hello all,

I suffer from diabetic neuropathy that is becoming so bad that I am in
danger of losing my job if I don't do something about it. Yet every Pain
Management Group I've contacted has either (1) been unable to take my
insurance, (2) been unwilling to see me even as an out-of-network
self-pay, or (3) doesn't use medications in their practice (how on earth
do you treat pain without medications??)

Does anyone know of an honest, sympathetic pain doctor in the central NJ
area? I am willing to cover the cost up to the $500 deductible that is
required for out-of-network (there are no pain doctors in my network). I
have been tried on nortriptyline (but not long enough) and on Neurontin
(worthless) and my internist now gives me Percocet 10/325, 30 per month,
which I only use when it is excruciating. The Percocet makes me able to
walk from the parking lot to the office, but my feet still feel like
they've been lacerated with razors and then soaked in sulfuric acid.

Anyone who can direct me to a good pain doctor will have my eternal
thanks.

Andy
