Dear Lynn,
are you kidding? You were seeing a doctor who actually mentioned Dachau
as a weight reduction center!!!! Of course it wasn't a problem at Dachau.
There were no choices, and no food. I guess there are some people who
actually believe a life lived in the fat zone is no life at all, and that
death is to be preferred.
I hope your doc gets his wish and discovers the wonderful world of anorexia.
As he reaches his "ideal weight" of 74 lbs., his teeth and hair will be
falling out and he will be in such a downward spiral that he might come to
understand the value of life over body image. Of course it's very difficult
to pull up from that obsession. I hope he's not married with children as he
will see the selfishness of his own choices and will leave them all without
a bread winner (no pun intended). How cruel this duel between self image and
starvation can become. No one should ever have to face it alone. But it's
still so private that most of us do face it alone and we make many wrong
choices in the name of "sacrifice".
For God's sake, let's try to remember who are making the final
sacrifices.
Be fat, or trim, but don't leave you family due to your vanity issues,
regardless of how overwhelming they seem. It's the way one feels about
overweight that is that villain, not the weight, itself. There's no crime in
being overweight. But there's a huge self centered problem in dying to be
thin.
Love,
Purple
