Pain and Human Development

Hi all,
I think I mentioned in a previous post that I'm trying to get my
Master's. Well, in aa course on Human Development for our final
project we're supposed to pick a human services organization to write
about, make reccomendations to, etc. Oh, we're also supposed to apply
a theory and stage of human development to whatever age group we
chose. Well, I kinda sorta painted myself into a corner because I
chose to write about a pain clinic (ficticious). Hmmm, wonder why?
Would have saved myself some grief if I would've gone with the flow
and picked some social services organization........
The thing is, I'm absolutely convinced that chronic pain alters our
personalities in some way, and, if we've had it long enough, even our
development as people. I find it hard to believe it wouldn't - the
numerous doctor's visits, the questioning of symptoms and/or pain
levels and all the other crap that goes along with having chronic
pain.(Oh, just came across an article that described how chronic pain
actrually makes our gray matter shrink!) Problem is, no matter how
I've searched on the subject, I haven't found anything specifically
dealing with that issue. Any thoughts? Ideas?
Peace,
Lynn
