Well the easy answer is Dilaudid is stronger then Oxycontin on a
mg-to-mg comparison, but the Oxycontin is longer acting so the overall
impact on your pain may actually be less with the Dilaudid.

The usual oral dose for Dilaudid is 2-4 mg every 4 to 6 hours as
necessary. Whereas the Oxy would more then likely be 20-40mg every 12
hours (although it has never ever seemed to last 12-hours for me).

Now Dilaudid suppositories (3 mg) may provide longer duration of
relief which could obviate additional medication during the sleeping
hours. The usual adult dose is one (1) suppository inserted rectally
every 6 to 8 hours or as directed by physician. A typical Oxycontin
dosage should hold you over throughout the night, unless of course
your one of the people who actually suffers from insomnia from taking
it.

Now all that being said as you know each person is different and one
drug maybe actually more effective for you then one that is supposedly
stronger. For example Fentanyl is supposed to be at the top of the
heap as far as strength goes, but it really doesn't work all that well
for me.

Does that come close to answering your question?
