That level of hysteria has stopped. The article you quoted is dated
September 2, 2003. That period was part of the initial propaganda
campaign orchestrated by the DEA to demonize OxyContin. Most of the fake
statistics and scare tactics about Oxy that appeared in newspapers and
on television during that time have been investigated and completely
discredited. Unfortunately, a lot of damage had already been done and
it's nearly impossible to change many of those false perceptions now.
