Hello ASA people,

So, I'm out of lurking now. I see a lot of familiar "faces" here (some from
chronic pain and some from the fibro group). Hi to anyone who remembers
me!! Can't say I'm happy to be here tho'. My therapist, who is also a
nurse practitioner, told me that my right thumb and wrist are swollen and
"lumpy looking" because of rheumatoid arthritis. Of course, just to be
sure, I see a doctor this Friday. The area has been bothering me for over a
year, but now, I'm in class every morning, (Mon. thru' Friday), and I take
notes (hand written). The writing is killing me!! It feels better if I
give it a day's rest, so I get relief on the weekend, but then it's bad
again on Monday afternoons... which is just about NOW!! So **ouch** and
hello to all.

Oh, I use heat on it (heating pad) at night. It feels sooooo good when it's
warmed up!! Only temporary tho'!!

Ho-hum!!

Hiya! I remember you from the fibro group though I mostly lurked there (and
didn't follow the exodus from it).

I really feel for you on the note-taking with gimpy hands. I was finally
finishing up college after a 6 year hiatus when my arthritis first struck
with a vengenace. I realized I *had* to go to a doctor about it when I
picked up my pen in my first class and had to choke back the screams. Down
the road I ended up taping some of my classes so I could write more slowly
and fill in the pieces later on. I was at a relatively small university, but
no one had any problem with me doing it that way. It was the 80s though so
nothing was going to be put on the internet! lol Profs also worked with me
on essay tests, either giving me more time or, once, letting me tape the
answers. I was more convincing for needing to wear braces pretty much 24/7
by then but they were happy to help out someone who was obviously willing to
do the work but just had some difficulty doing it the traditional way. Keep
that in mind and don't worry too much about talking to your teachers about
difficulties you are having. Taping the lectures was BIG for me in my really
info-dense courses.
