I read somewhere that some place they weren't allowed to do the "controlled
burn" that would clear out that underbrush, etc, that burns so easily. I
wish some one here would know what I am talking about and complete the
story, please.

When does nature get the chance to grow back???
But it's not the same place every year--the Station fire, which is
still burning, with control expected late next week and one of the
largest ever recorded in California, is burning areas that haven't
burned for half a century or more, which is why the fire is so huge.
True, there are areas that get hit every few years, but that's largely
human carelessness, not because of the terrain or fuel supply.
