Saw my pcp today and he was happy that I am finally seeming to be over
the hump with all of this respiratory stuff. Told him I still am using
the extra strength cough syrup he gave me at night as I still get into
several coughing spells a day, but I just use the syrup at night now so
that I can at least get a couple of hours of uninterrupted sleep. He
was thrilled to hear that I finally was getting some sleep, as he knew I
was considerably sleep deprived from being so sick. He wanted to check
my potassium levels and my calcium levels as they had been very low when
I was in the hospital. I ask him when did he want me to get the blood
work drawn as I wondered if I could wait a couple of weeks to trek over
to the lab. He said, would you mind if I just had one of the nurses
draw it today while I was there in the clinic? Heck no, I said, that
would save me a trip which would really be most helpful to me, so the
nurse drew it while I was there. Very nice and very convenient!
It was a rather nice day out today. Not too cold and the sun was out in
full force earlier. Although it is supposed to rain this evening at
some point.
In any case, not sure why, but on the way home from my pcp's, I decided
at the last minute to stop at Sams Club. I needed to get a refill on my
rx for testing strips for my glucometer, and there was a couple of other
things I wanted to get also.
Well, the pharmacist there at Sams Club is always such a nice guy and
when I stopped there first, he said hello and asked me if I was coming
for a refill for my testing strips. I said yes and to take his time as
I had a few other things I wanted to get. When I went back to pick up
the rx, he asked me how I liked the glucometer I was using, and I told
him I really like it a lot! He then asked me if I wanted a free
glucometer? I was puzzled and said why? He asked me if I had a back up
glucometer and I said no. He said you should always have a back up one
just in case. He said everyone that tests should have a back up one.
Well, I really didn't see the need for one, but when all was said and
done, he had still given me a free glucometer and the one he gave me is
one of the nicer ones that I have always been interested in, but it is
one that has always been way more expensive that I was willing to pay or
could afford to pay! According to the receipt in the bag, he just
wrote it off and out of inventory! It is made by the same company as the
one I already have, and uses the exact same type of testing strips too.
Wow, that is awfully generous!!! I don't know if Iooked extra
desperate today or what. Sure was pretty nice of him.
Then, when I left the store, I was sooooo tired out and quite sore too!
The joints were really starting to scream at me. It had also gotten
very over cast out and as I was headed to my car, I just whispered a
little prayer "please Lord let me at least just get home before it
starts pouring out!" Just got to my car and this lady came over and
said why don't you let me unload your cart in to your car and you just
get in the car and rest. I said "oh, that is ok, I can get it!' She
said, mam, I would really like it and feel a whole lot better about it
if you would let me do this for you. She said her father-in-law had
just come to live with them, and she said she had no idea how hard it is
for some people to get around and to do certain things until he came to
live with them. She said he really opened my eyes and my families eyes
at how hard life can be for so many people and she was so glad that he
had opened their eyes. She said she is much more aware now ot others
and how hard it can be for them, especially when dealing with heavier
items and such. So, she promptly unloaded my basket into my car, took
the cart to the little corral thing, then came back and said thank you
for letting me be of some help and I hope you can make it home before it
rains. Wow!!! Wow!!! and Wow!!! How sweet was that?! I was
stunned and even more so when she shared the story of her father-in-law
coming to live with them and the impact it seems to have had on them.
Was that nice or what???
I made it home, got everything loaded into a cart at home and up to my
apartment before the rain came! Yay!!!
And, my heart is full from her most generous gift of kindness to me
today!!! What a true blessing!!!
There sure are some amazingly kind and very touching people out
there!!! Don't know how it is that I happen upon them so often, but I
sure am blessed by them!!!
