Re: A little OTP hearing problems

Thanks for the information. It gives me some help for when I go in to the
doctor on the 6th of October.

Can you have arthritis in your ears? I went in to the hearing aid
specialist because the beep that says the hearing aid is at the preset
volume was quite faint in one ear. He checked it out and then suggested
he do another hearing test. There was a significant change that worried
him enough that he made me an appointment with an ENT to have it checked
out. He said it shouldn't have changed that much in 2-1/2 years. And
here I thought everything above my neck was doing alright! LOL The
appointment is on the 6th of October, so will have to wait on that.

I don't remember how old you are and don't know how long you have had a
hearing problem.

But, yes you can have 'arthritis in your ears'

I'm now profoundly deaf and have a cochlear implant in my right ear. My
hearing was fine twenty years ago. (I'm 62)

The consensus of opinion is that it is an autoimmune related hearing loss.
Which is pretty non-specific. What I've learned over the process is that
most hearing loss is irreversible and that knowing the cause doesn't make
a great deal of difference in the treatment or the outcome either. This
can come across from the doctors as 'don't know and don't care' which
usually really isn't the case.

There are of course exceptions and those exceptions are critical. A
sudden hearing loss many times can be treated, if you get medical
attention immediately.

In any case. the same processed that can make our joints hurt and ache can
affect any and all the tissues in our bodies. Not just bones and joints
but skin and organs and everything else.

Sometimes this can be slowed down or even stopped, but usually can't be
reversed.

That's why it is so important to get the best treatment you can as soon as
you can.

Jo
