(((((((((((((((((((donnag))))))))))))))))) i'm so glad you have your lung
doctor! he cares so much about you and really makes an effort to take good
care of you. i can't help but bless him for that.
i've never heard of a neurologist running a specialized sleep clinic. but
it does make enormous sense to me, because our autonomic nervous system
(acting as part of the peripheral nervous system that regulates our
unconscious/involuntary bodily functions) is governed by our neurons
firing-off properly. this specialized clinic sounds like a very good thing
to me, as it appears to deal with root causes.
holding a plateful of pineapple upsidedown cake for you to have with the
"whine", to which you are very entitled.

So, after my exciting visit with the orthopedic doctor, it was then on
to the lung doctors office!
I do have to stop for a minute here and just say how much I truly love
my lung doctor and appreciate him!!! He's so incredibly patient and so
good about talking things through with you.
I had emailed him a list of 10 things I wanted to discuss, most would
only take a minute or two, some a little more. When I got to his
office, he had printed two copies of the list off and we went through it
together and I made notes of what he said on my copy. (he made a few
notes too!)
He said it really wasn't necessary to get the allergy shots and that the
immunologist was trying to get me feeling better, but he also understood
that my plate was more than full enough for the moment, so not to worry
about that.
I was also surprised because he said he still wanted me to do the flu
shot every year and the pneumonia vaccine every 5 years despite the fact
that my immune system doesn't seem to produce any antibodies of
protection from it. He said we still need to make every attempt
possible to protect you and your immune system from causing you major
problems. Oh well.
We talked about changing the IVIG infusions from every 4 weeks to every
3 weeks. He said he would like to see me consider it, but he also
understood if I didn't want to with all the other things going on. He
said maybe we could wait until we get my next blood work for my immune
globulin levels to see what they show and then revisit the issue and
rethink it all at the first of the year. He understands that the
infusions make me so sick, so that is a consideration as well.
Then we went over the results of a home pulse ox study I did last week
during the night without my oxygen on. After reviewing it, he said he
wants to send me to a special type of sleep clinic that is run by
neurologists instead of pulmonologists!
Any of you ever been to such a thing?
He is concerned about my breathing after looking at the results of the
over night pulse ox test I did last week.
He said first of all that my lowest reading (which was 43%) should not
be that low and that that is very concerning to him. Dropping that low
is also dangerous.
It also said that it showed that in a 7.5 hour period of sleep, it
showed that I had:
A total of 440 desaturations of less than 3 minutes durations
3 desaturations of longer than 3 minutes duration. (desaturations were
counted as a drop in saturation of 4 points or more).
Average number of desats were 72 per hour.
Lung doc thinks I have a problem with ?primary central apnea perhaps
mixed in with some obstructive apnea. Either that or some other problem
he is worried about.
He was worried enough about this test, that he told the special clinic
he wanted them to work me in within the next 2 weeks!
I have done at least 5-6 formal sleep studies, but I never sleep during
the studies. First - I don't know how anyone can sleep with all those
wires and such hooked up to you, second - they always run the sleep
studies so that it is lights out from 10 p.m to 6 a.m. Well heck, I
never go to bed before 3 a.m., so about the time they normally are
waking you up is close to the time I normally would be going to bed.
Lung doctor said he was going to have them do a study where I stay awake
for at least 24+ hours or more and then do the study during the
afternoon so I would more then likely be able to sleep after being up
for so long.
Uggggh, I hate doing sleep studies, hate all the stuff they hook up to
you, and hate all the gunk they put in your hair attaching all the stuff
they have to hook up to you.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, whine, whine whine!!!
We're not sure if perhaps my stroke caused some problems with my
breathing center or if this is just a long ongoing thing that we just
haven't picked up on before.
Sigh, never a dull moment!!! Are we having fun yet???
lololol..........
Would love to know if anyone has been to one of these specialized sleep
clinics with a neurologist involved???
