Fos some reason I've never thought of trying to capture a hummingbird in
flight. Ironic as I have a variety of bloomers in my garden chosen partly
because they attract hummers - in fact there was one busily feeding in the
garden outside the office window when i first read this message. heck,
there
ws one working those flowers last week even when I was hanging laundry
just a
few feet away! maybe I'll get the energy to try some shots this week.

Well, capturing hummers in flight is easier, I think, than attempting to
photograph them when they perch. Reason being, they seem to rarely perch.
Having said that, capturing them in flight is not an easy deal. I caught
this
one with a 500mm lens, and it's still only 2/3rds of the original frame.
Shoot
long. Shoot bright. And, shoot fast. And, get lucky. That's how you get
them. But, unlike dragonsflies, where it really does take some physical
exertion, capturing hummers requires you to just sit in a chair and wait.
It
was like a party, really, with some good friends, all trying to do the same
thing. A sedate party with a lot of camera gear. <g>
