Well, what a day! I had decided not to take the expressway to the hospital
because it was during rush hour. Of course I had forgotten that most
downtowns have one-way streets everywhere. However, I love to explore so
just kept going west and north and eventually ended up at my destination
with 15 minutes to spare. The directions paper they had sent me had a
section of disabled parking spaces being in front of a particular
building. I followed them and parked only to find out that the meters
would only allow 75 minutes per car. I knew I would be 4-5 hours, so put
some money in the meter and went inside to ask questions. Fortunately I
was in the right building but at the wrong end. I walked the length of the
building to the reception desk and was told, no, I needed to park at this
end. So they started my paperwork while I went back out to the car and
attempted to go to the other end. Somewhere I missed a left turn and ended
up driving straight into a garage. No problem, I thought. I finally found
a spot on level 7, went to the elevators and down and I was in the wrong
building. I found a map on the wall that showed I needed to walk around
the garage building and two buildings over. No way could I do that kind of
a walk, so back to the car and headed out to the exit. Paid $2 for my 15
minutes there and told them I really needed to be at the Davis Center.
Turn right and take the very first right. Okay, did so and found myself a
parking space immediately in front of the door. By this time I am an hour
late for my appointment and so frustrated I am close to tears. I go inside
and they said, "Oh, good you're back." I told them if I got back to the
clinic to find out that I had to reschedule because I was late, I was
going to sit right down on the floor where I was and cry. Everyone
immediately started soothing my feelings, saying no that wouldn't happen
and it was normal for people to get lost their first trip to the OSU
campus, yada yada.
Got to the infusion clinic. Nice nurses, small room with six recliners.
They go over my history, checking the meds I'm currently on and then try
to start the IV. Four sticks later, they got one working. They're very
apologetic that it took them so many sticks to get a working IV, but hey,
we're ready to go (only 2 hours after my original appointment time).
First the pre-meds for about 10-15 minutes. About an hour and a half into
the drips, my tongue and throat start itching. I call the nurse over and
she says, "Normal side effect." They stop the drip, administer more
Benedryl and we wait for the itching to go away. When it does, they
restart the Rituxan at a slower speed. No more problems. Finally, after
seven hours there, I'm done and start home. Retracing my route proved
child's play after the day I've had. I get home exhausted. Then, as I'm
eating my egg rolls, I start itching all over. Okay, there may be
something in the egg rolls I'm reacting to. I take a couple of Benedryls
and it goes away.
At about 7 PM, I lay down to nap and don't wake up until the DH comes in
about 12:50 AM. I can't go back to sleep because of the hungries, so I
come out to the living room, see the computer and decide to report to
everyone who has been so thoughtful as to keep me in their prayers. I have
a mild itchy feeling which I will keep my eye on. Other than that, and a
slightly drippy nose, all is well. Thank you for your thoughts and
prayers. Hopefully the second trip to a major university campus will be a
little less traumatic.
This is my report.

and thank you for that. Many of us can see ourselves in much of what you
had to say. I had a time with the parking garages just like you did except
it was to serve jury duty. Please rest and take it easy for a day or so.
Great things are going to come of this.
