My grandfather was a general practice physician in Quincy, MA back in
the 20's through the 60's and he saw the germ thing coming BACK THEN.
He was saying THEN (so reports my mom) that mothers were OVERCLEANING
EVERYTHING and that it would take a couple of generations to manifest,
but we would see damage... i.e. peanut allergies, etc...

Your post was very interesting and I just wanted you to know that!

***********

I finally caught my daughter, who has been a real nut about keeping
everything remotely near to her now eight month old daughter
practically sterile.

I'd been baby sitting last Friday, and when she got home I told her
I'd messed up. I'd fed Emily baby food straight out of the jars for
lunch and then put the left over into the refrigerator. (A reasonably
big no no since you introduce saliva into the food that way and it
can spoil more quickly) Told her I knew I should have put some of it
into a dish instead, and that she might not want to keep the leftovers
past that evening.

She said she had been feeding out of the jars since Emily started
eating baby food.

Maybe now she will start to relax on a few other things.
