Hi Gang,

Don't laugh at me, but it has been quite some time since I really have
worked on a computer and have never used a laptop.
You need an internet connection. Unless your building provides internet
service, you'll need to arrange your own, either with the cable company
(cable modem) or the phone company (DSL). Whichever way you go, you'll
get a cable modem or DSL modem provided with the service at a nominal
charge (you generally have the option of buying your own as well).
Depending on the configuration of your apartment, it might be OK for you
to connect a cable between your new laptop and the cable/DSL modem. But
if that cable would be a problem, you would get a wireless router, and
then you can use the internet connection from anywhere in your apartment.
Some service providers will try to sell you a wireless networking
package, but you probably don't need to get that from them, as you'll be
talking about a single computer.
