Re: On topic,,, I guess. (Again)

A very important thing I forgot to mention. Since my third trip to hospital
in May this year, I have had tremors and you can hardly read my writing
(even I have a hard time). Dr. deJesus asked if I had been checked for
parkinsons or if it ran in my family; answers no and no. She mentioned
sending me to a neurologist but wanted to wait until all the blood tests
were done and she had the results. She didn't mention it when I went back
and I forgot to do so. I see her again in 4 weeks so I will put that on my
list this time for sure.

Harv, since you brought Mama Char up to date on you, I guess it's time for
me to do an update also. Since my primary family doctor retired early
this year, I haven't really had "my" doctor anymore. Last time I saw my
cardiologist, I told him I really needed a good doctor. He picked up the
phone and called Dr. Carmelita deJesus and made an appointment for me.
One of his nurses said I would love her, Dr. deJesus was her doctor and
she just absolutely loved her. Well, I love her too. She is an internist
(my cardiologist was also before he became a cardiologist). She spent
over an hour with me the first time and had me go for 10 different tests
from 6 vials of blood. Went back last week to get results. My potassium
and B12 were low and she prescribed for both of those. A B12 shot on
Thursday last week and one a week for three more weeks, then one a month.
Then my BP and cholesterol were high and she prescribed for those.
Already taking three BP meds.

Both my shoulders have been hurting me for a few month; will wake up
hurting and have to turn over. She suggested having my orthopod inject
them, but I go to my RD on January 3 and I'll wait for him. The shots he
puts in my neck are in almost before I can feel them at all so I think I'd
rather trust him for those in my shoulders although he has put them in my
hip in the past. I'm to have another blood test on my potassium this Wed.
when I get my B12 shot. We can't seem to get my coumadin just right and
the longest I've had between protime tests was 3 weeks (just twice) since
last November.

When I went to my pulmonologist last month, I had to do another breathing
test even though a CT scan to compare to one about the same time last year
reported no change in scar tissue. But I feel that the fibrosis IS worse
because my shortness of breath and fatigue are worse, even though I sleep
using oxygen. Hope I can find out more when I see him again in January.

This is all I can think of right now, but it's late and I'm very tired, so
I can't guarantee anything!
Gwen

Hi All,,,,

Life and how things happen sometimes can sure remind a person how
crow
tastes. It looks like I am going to have to make the appointment
with my
old lung doctor with the charming nurse. The hospital does not seem
to be
able to find a copy of my CT scan and you know who has a copy of
all
of the information from 3 years ago to compare against the new CT
scan.
The only good thing about this is they are going to have to dig it
up
for the doctor and can not pass it off to the hospital like they did
with
me. :-) So it goes.

I've been away for a while Harv, what is going on?
Char

Hi Char,,,, I will gladly catch you up and it is so good to be doing
that with you. 3 years ago I tested positive for exposure to TB and had
to go to a lung doctor for treatment which is 9 months of a potent
antibiotic. My RD said that I only needed 6 months of that and I stood it
for 7 months. At the end of those seven months I was so weak, I had to
have help to get out of a chair. The CT scan I had to see how advanced
the TB was,,, showed a great deal of lung scarring across the bottom of
both lungs but none of advanced TB. I was very upset by all of this
because at the time I sang in the choir and sometimes greeted people at
the door and you can not do those things with a case of TB going on. To
be on the safe side until all was known, I changed a great deal of my
life.
This time around,,,, it is the amount of recovery time that is needed
when I get winded and I went to my family doctor about that. An X ray
showed a great deal of scarring in my lung and IMO I have lost the use of
about a third of my lungs. My family doctor set me up to have another
CT scan and I am glad we did. The person that tells the doctors what
the scan shows said that I have a thickening in the wall of my heart and
advancing fibrosis or Rheumantic lung with a great deal of scarring. I
have not had my lung doctor appointment yet but I know from the last time
that I will have to go through a great deal of testing for volume and how
well my lungs are working. :-) I know from mowing the lawn how well
they are working but how bad it is,,, I do not know and am going to find
out.
I do not know if the rules are all the same for getting a copy of a
persons CT scan but in Texas, the people that do the scan must furnish a
copy on request. After two weeks and 3 visits to the hospital where I
had the CT scan for the TB exposure has failed to come up with a copy.
OOoooh, they came up with a copy of a young girls CT scan taken a year
before mine was taken which really burned me but I did not say much about
it. The lady was so taken back by what they tried to give me,,, so
confused,,, I just gave her all the information about the when's and
what's of my scan,,,, I just asked her to try again,,,, that was a week
ago. Nothing, which forces me to go back to my old lung doctor to have
a CT scan to compare against. I was going to go to another lung
specialist because of the old ones nurse who has Ratchet beat all to
hell.
I have had RA since I was about 38 and am 68. I really am not
surprised that my lungs are in bad shape besides I smoked for 30 years
and stopped in 1983. That may of had something to do with how my lungs
work today.
That's about it Char until more testing is done and what the specialist
has to say.
