Re: semi-ot Potassium and Vitamin D deficiencies?

I've had issues for a long time with low potassium. I had a doctor who,
instead of giving me supplements, had me drinking Gatorade and I don't even
like the stuff. Then he started getting frustrated and, still not putting me
on supplements, told me to eat bananas, tomatoes (even though at the time I
was taking Prevacid), potatoes, even potato chips! Anything to raise my
potassium level.

So the last time I saw my doc (about a month ago) I got bloodwork done.
Apparently I'm deficient in both potassium and vitamin d.
The potassium was the second time in 6 months I've come up short on that
test, so not just a flukey electrolyte imbalance. (That's what they
figured the first time) - Well now thinking about it I realize that I've
often been low. However, the doctors have always said "eh, it's not really
any big deal." I am thinking it may not be such a minor issue. Maybe it's
related some some of my other health issues.
The vitamin D thing was actually suggested by T's doctor. Apparently she
feels that most folks in the PacNW are low due to the lack of sunlight, so
she routinely tests for it. T came up deficient, and so did I.
Anyway, just curious if anyone else has thoughts on the potassium thing. I
know it can have some serious effects with the heart, etc. But anyone have
experiences on things that can cause low potassium?
Ok, time to "Say G'nite Gracie."
G'nite Gracie.
