Hi!

Have been lurking. Saying prayers for those in need; and the need seems
to be pretty great lately. Wish everyone was doing better.

My mom was wiping the counter and her collarbone cracked. Turns out there
is a tumor in the bone. As it turns out, there is also a tumor in her arm
and hip. On scan, the one in the hip and in the arm look similar, but the
one in the collarbone looks different, so it is getting biopsied today.
They biopsied the arm two days ago.

Mom had a very rare form of cancer almost three years ago. It was in her
abdomen. But since it had clear margins and no node involvement, there
was no chemo or radiation. The radiologist who did the biopsy two days
ago said that on initial eyeballing, the tumor from her arm looked like a
spindle cell one, which is what she had three years ago.

It turns out her hospitalizations for what we thought was pancreatitis is
consistent with metastases from that original cancer. She can't remember
if she ever told her oncologist about these attacks. Certainly her
doctors never made the connection. Not sure whether its worth getting
angry at the original oncologist - or whether its our own fault for not
researching it more three years ago.

And with one tumor seeming different from the others, we really don't
know what we are dealing with yet. Sigh! Right now, she has a pretty
positive attitude. Like me - a pragmatist who has trouble connecting with
the emotions. That will serve her well for now. We can fall apart later
(at least for a little while) when there are no decisions to be made, and
just treatment to be endured.

She and my sister are also in an initial panic, because they just bought
a big home together and were relying on my Mom's salary for monthly
expenses. The house they wound up with is a two story (it was less
expensive than the ranch style they first contracted for, by 75K), which
now means looking into a chair/lift so my mom won't have to risk the
stairs (no place to add a bedroom downstairs, and no money in which to do
it even if there were room)

On top of that, a good friend and neighbor has been battling breast
cancer which they found metastasized to her lungs. Chemo is shrinking
those. But it turns out it's in her brain where the chemo can't reach
because of the blood/brain barrier. She is now getting daily radiation
therapy. But this is a really bad turn of events and doesn't bode well.
This woman has four kids, aged 8 (my son's friend) 15, 19 and 21. She is
a nurse who has actually been working until radiation was started last
week, making her too tired. She is on the school committee of her parish
school. She could really use the help of the prayer machine. Her
contributions to the rest of us are just so special.

SO, prayers for my mom, Dorothy Stavis and my friend, Gail Morse, would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for listening, guys.
