update: the wrist saga

hello my asa family,

this is a pain pill break in my disney audition rehearsals. as you know, my
surgery was yesterday. i figured it was about time i stumbled over this
keyboard on the way to bed or from bed, or something comfy and cozy related
to a familiar room.<smile>

i returned home at 4 p.m. yesterday. surgery started about half an hour
late, this time, but did take 90 minutes and 45 minutes recovery. my
friend, linda (who took me to the surgical center), suggested to the
anesthetist (sp?) that she wasn't having me walk out of surgery this time
(more tactfully than i just put it, of course), like my son told her i did
the last time. that worked apparently--- i didn't walk out of o.r. this
time. she told me. she also made sure to remind the nurse to remind my
doctor to write a pain pill 'script, cuz i knew i'd run out of them in the
middle of the weekend. i think i want to adopt linda.<g>

i'm not sure if i heard him correctly, having been still a bit woozy
immediately after surgery. but, it seemed to me that my surgeon said it
went better than he expected-- think he said he needed to make only two
incisicons, instead of the 3 and/or possibly 4 incisions he prepared me for.
sounded like he didn't have to graft a tendon from someplace else, afterall;
that my thumb's tendon stayed close to home when it severed; that the
rupture wasn't too bad either. think he said the sharp broken bone
fragments from my wrist caused just enough of a cut or cuts in the tendon
for it to let go, once the bones healed up, when i started using that thumb
again.

i'll know on the 5th, when he removes the sutures, if i heard him correctly
about all that stuff. (i'm not sure what i heard.LOL) of course, i have my
surgeon's trademark mammoth bandage, that looks and feels like ogg's
neanderthal club, to contend with until then---so, i know i had the
operation.LOL you'd crack up if you saw his idea of a bandage---this is the
3rd one of his that i've had. he is definitely consistant about it. (boy,
i bet no package he ever shipped had broken contents!--but the postage costs
must be staggering.LOL) i do know, for a fact, that he didn't have to take
the tendon from my right wrist for my left thumb (like he said he would if
he couldn't find the extra tendon in my left wrist), cuz i don't have two
ogg's clubs to juggle at the same time.<smile>

most of the rest of yesterday is kind of fuzzy for some reason. since
then, i've been sleeping like i've been getting ready for an audition for
the poison apple scene at the dwarves' cottage.

pain's not bad, just a bit of throbbing, not that abysmal ache that makes
you want desparately to find a way to run away from, like the last time.
sooo, i guess i'm doing good for a one-handed gimp.<grin> whoa! just had
an itch on the owie-hand side of my chest. guess what i just this minute
found?---one of those 3M red dot lead pads they stick all over people to
attach lead-wires to for monitoring vitals. boy, i really must have been
doing an excellent job rehearsing for that audition, eh?LOL egads.

thank you, all of you dear people, for your prayers, good vibes, healing
thoughts, and just plain ol' dearness that is part of this family's
character that i know and love. pain pills are kicking in and i hear that
familiar room hynotically calling to me. hey, all of you have a great new
year! not just happy, but painfree, prosperous and filled with the goodness
you all deserve.

lovingly,
sleepy
(and you thought i was rehearsing for the sleeping beauty role, din'tcha?
i'm too short for it.<g>)
