Dwight, I don't like to date myself but I have been a fan since the Eagles
played at Franklin Field. Granted that the Eagles stunk in the early 1970s,
but since the late 1970s they have been competitive more often than not.
The NFL has changed with 4 team divisions, 2 wildcards, and parity. As a
result, a team can turn around in one year. There have been at least 5 new
playoff teams every year since the current format, and anything less than a
playoff year should be considered an unsuccessful season. Fans shouldn't
fear change, especially since it is unlikely that this head coach will ever
win a Lombardi. Do you think Reid can trade his top ten draft pick next
year for a bunch of middle round picks and get anywhere?

We're in terra icognito here in Philadelphia. Since the Reid/McNabb era
began, we've come to expect playoffs as a matter of course, and a season
that doesn't at least end in the NFC Championship game is a waste.
Look, no one wants the Eagles to win a Super Bowl more than I do, but...
For the last 10 years, there have been those who wanted McNabb outta here.
I joined them after last season. The thing always was, you'll never have a
better quarterback.
For the last 10 years, there have been those who wanted Andy Reid outta
here. Again, you'll never have a better coach to replace him - despite all
of his faults.
I rarely heard a voice who wanted BOTH of them gone, which I find
interesting. Almost always, it was one or the other.
Now we find ourselves just a little bit spoiled. The old hypothetical was
always, "How many losing seasons would you gladly suffer through, if the
Eagles could win one Super Bowl?" In truth, the old folks here remember
when 9 wins was a great season, or just having swept the Cowboys.
Personally, I gladly suffer through EVERY season, and being within
sniffing distance of a Super Bowl was a new and alien experience for me. I
didn't quite know how to handle it, but I did buy a whole bunch of
T-shirts during those years.
Do I want Reid gone? Sure, have for years. I'm not keen on the WCO,
although winning sure takes the stink out of a lot of things. But I do
know that no new coach is going to measure up to what Reid has done here,
and I'm not eager to see a new coach AND a new starting quarterback at the
same time. The day will come when we get to complain about our new regime,
but I'm eager to see what Reid does this year, and whether Kolb can
actually play.
And, for once in a long time, I have no great expectations from this team.
It's kind of nice to be back - like slipping on an old, comfortable pair
of sneakers.
Now... What about that stinkin' 4th and 1 play? WTF?!?
