An 8-point lead is very comfortabe in the final minutes. Not only does the
other team have to go the length of the field, but they have to successfully
convert the 2-point play. I think it was a clever decision by Washington,
but the result didn't make the Eagles look "dumb." Washington made a lot of
coaching gaffes, and Gibbs needed to learn to save the 2-point chart until
the 4th quarter.
