I did exactly that Monday. I watched two games this week at friends'
with it, and my 29" 14 year old RCA has to go. Although there is a
wait
for
DirecTV to upgrade me to Hi-Def.
After getting a whiff of mine, my ultra competitive brother HAD to have
it too. Went out without a clue and bought a 56" Sony last weekend that
he spent WAY too much money on. The cheap *** still has dialup for
crying out loud. Anyway, gets himself all set up, gets the new HD box
can't get a decent signal for over a week. Has the Cable clown out
there on Sunday during the Eagles game. Lures me to the house under
premise that everything was finally working great, I get there and the
fancy new set is dark and we got Merril Reese on the radio. I nearly
kicked his ass. Finally the cable guy blames too many splitters and
can't fix it until today. Serves the *** right, I hope one of nephews
throws a baseball through the fucking thing.
LOL. I hope he didn't settle on a CRT rear-projection (which is what it
sounds like based on the size), because they're terrible even with HD.
It's
like watching TV after Moe poked you in the eyes.
That statement is false.
HD is HD. If your rear-projection tv looks like crap you need to get it
calibrated. Same goes for any type tv: plasma, LCD, whatever. In fact,
you
should get your HD tv calibrated whether it looks like crap or not. It
will
last longer and give a better picture.
And since this guy got an overpriced TV, there is almost now way he got a
RPTV. Those things are around half the price of plasmas and LCDs.
DLP, LCD and LCoS are all RP TV's.
CRT RP's have deep cabinets, need periodic maintenance, are not ideal for
bright rooms, have a narrow viewing angle, have a softer image than
microdisplays and most cannot display computer signals.
Who watches their computer on a TV in a bright room while sitting at a bad
viewing angle?
ALL TVs require periodic maintenance. And an HD picture is an HD picture.
I think they suck even if calibrated properly compared to microdisplays.
They're dinosaurs actually.
That's an opinion. I disagree. The differences are minute if they are
visible at all.
