No, asshat. He's just supporting the reasonable notion that English is
the de facto lingua franca in the US. Should Joe also put up menus in
Vietnamese and Urdu? Where does it end. English is the language of the
realm here, so use it.
I find that many of the people who share your pinheaded viewpoint on
this issue also are the first to point fingers at the "ugly americans"
who go abroad and don't bother to learn the language of the country
they are visiting. TTZ....another self hating American.
English is not the official language of the United States. For whatever
reason the powers of be have chosen to never ratify it as such. Perhaps
it is to uphold the spirit that this nation has thrived because of it's
immigrants. This country turned the corner in the mid to late 1800's
when our gates were opened to the Europeans and Asians who were
searching for something other than the persecution or indignities they
faced in their homelands. This is America. The reason your grandparents
came here is the same reason Mexican immigrants come here today:for a
better life.
I live in the San DIego area, and I can tell you first hand that Mexican
immigrants (illegals) do not come here for a better life. They come here
to work and send money home to their families in Mexico. One can go down
to the border in the morning and watch children come across the border and
attend school in this country and then return in the evening. Millions of
dollars are sent back to mexico that do not benefit our economy, They put
a horrible drain on our economy because they use services here in schools
and hospitals where politicians impose social programs to accomodate their
lack of english speaking skills and health insurance. They drive without
licenses and insurance. It makes life so much better when your car is
wrecked by an unisured illegal. Your insurance goes up, nothing happens to
him. My family came to Philadelphia from Sicily and found a better life by
working hard and forcing their children to assimilate. Half of my many
cousins have more than 12 years of school. There were no accomodations for
them, just opportunity.
