Re: Just for the Hell of It...an Eagles Mock Draft

Yes, it's March 18th, and the draft is six weeks away. But instead of
dwelling on the frustrating start of new NFL year, I'd look at the one
two-day period where every team's fans have reason to hope (at least
some....): the Draft.

The Eagles currently have nine picks, with three in the 4th round. I
anticipate them getting two comp picks: one in the 5th for Burgess, and
one in the 6th for Mayberry. This draft presumes they'll use all of
them, which would be the first time in years.

1st - Marcus McNeill, OT, Auburn:
i've brought him up before; he's a mauler who would immediately step in
at RT...his selection allows Herremans to backup Tra this year and be
his heir apparent for later

McNeil is a fine pick at 14. Intellegent player with the ability to
step in immediately which is what one expects from a 1st rounder. Many
including Ourlads see Vernon Davis being taken here, which JP would do
cartwheels over.

2nd - Rodrique Wright, DT, Texas:
he may not be there at the Eagles pick because of his considerable
talent and upside, but is also known for inconsistency and poor
conditioning....has skills to be playmaker against both run and pass

Was in great shape last month. Dosen't suffer from the polyp issue that
affected Andrews so it looks like the lad just likes to eat. D'Qwell
Jackson or Demarcus Ryan are 2 LB's I wouldn't mind getting a nod in
this area.

3rd - Mike Hass, WR, Oregon State:
smart, reliable overachiever who could lock down the slot position for
the next few years....has great hands and will find the opening in the
zone...could be strong contributor on ST while he learns offense and
asserts himself on WR depth chart

If they skip McNeil in round 1 I expect they'll add Whitworth from LSU
here.

4th - Cedric Humes, RB, Virginia Tech:
strong inside runner who can be a load at the 2nd level, he's also got
some skills as a receiver....needs to work on route running and
blocking, but presents attractive alternative to injury-prone
Buckhalter

I'm good with Humes, but they may package these picks in some way to
grab an extra third.

4th - Derrick Martin, CB, Wyoming:
aggressive and athletic, would allow Ware to move to safety, and could
develop into capable replacement should Hood leave after '06....needs
to get stronger and refine technique, but talent for blocking kicks
would allow him to start contributing early on with ST

4th - Rob Sims, OG, Ohio State:
big, strong and technically sound in pass protection, will lock in and
finish blocks....needs to improve conditioning and stamina, but has the
tools to be a starter down the road...would present viable competition
to Clarke and Young

5th - J.D. Runnels, FB, Oklahoma:
strong, sturdy blocker who runs good routes and will blow up would-be
tacklers....won't touch the ball on running plays, and lacks second
gear to get very far after catch, but the FB isn't asked to do much of
either for the Eagles

5th (comp) - Freddy Keiaho, LB, San Diego State:
fast and aggressive, is strong for his smallish size and takes good
angles....will need to improve technique, and while may not be any more
than a backup LB, will be a force on ST, replacing Adams

6th (comp) - Darrell Adams, DE, Villanova:
has size and speed, holds up against the run and has promise as a pass
rusher...will need to adjust to advanced level while enahncing skills,
but would have ideal opportunity here, with Kearse and Howard to learn
from

7th - Graying Love, OL, Arizona State:
extremely versatile, would provide instant depth across the
line....needs to get stronger in order to be more help in the interior
or handle bull rushes...would be deep sub/developmental type initially,
but could become an Artis Hicks super-sub type

So there ya go....constructive criticism is welcome, as I'll likely
update it closer to the big day(s).

Tim

Looks pretty good to me overall, some difference of opinion in the
later rounds but nothing dramatic and I'm still reading up on many of
the 5,6,7 round dudes. Well prepared and presented Tim.
