Why do Pats fans give a crap how BB is revered? I honestly would
happily accept a complete smuck as a head coach as long as it led to
Super Bowls. How ridiculous would it be to have a team and coach that
you admire that never wins anything? That reasoning only makes sense
to bitter fans of other teams trying to deal with the fact that the
Pats have out succeeded every team in the last decade.

There is not a coach in history that would have been expected to win
suddenly removing a hall of fame quarterback and inserting Matt
Cassell, and everyone knows it, even the trolls in denial, but that
doesn't even matter, because I am only loyal to BB to the extent that
he is leading the Pats.

He is revered because he may far surpass Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry
and Bill Walsh and Joe Gibbs to be recognized as the greatest NFL
coach ever. Just look at the facts. Bill Belichick has the basic
understanding of football that Lombardi possessed, the stoicism of
Landry, the genius of Walsh, and the motivation of Gibbs. The most
perfect NFL coach ever just as the 2000's Patriots are the best NFL
team ever.

But my point is who cares. I don't care if he is the best ever, or if
he never amounted to anything. I only care about how my team is doing.

This is like being excited because a whole bunch of players on a team
who never won anything made it to the Hall of Fame. That may be great
for each individual player, but as a fan, without the team success it
is far less noteworthy. John Hannah comes to mind. He was amazing in
his day, and terrific to watch, and seeing him get elected into the
Hall of Fame was terrific, but none of it could hole a candle to seeing
the team win a SB. Same for BB, I don't care how many accolades he gets
or doesn't get, I only care that the last decade as been amazing with
the 3 SBs and there is likely a lot more success still to come.

How do you follow some sport and not care who is the best at it?

I said I care far more about team success.

Did it matter in 2001 that the Pats were a bunch of no names at the time?
Hell no, it was the best season ever.

So you look at the big picture, I can appreciate that.

I once talked to a fan who was your opposite. He studied safetys. No
kidding. He could go on about free safetys and strong safetys and which
safetys could go both ways and Steve Atwater who I suppose must have been
a safety.

There are tens of millions of NFL fans and maybe some of them regard it in
different ways than others.

But don't make any mistake, I am not saying I don't follow the game closely
or keep my eye on individuals or study the intricacies of the game, I am
saying I don't care for individual accomplishments.
