Mark, I would say this slight discomfort is greasing the rails
towards a recession.

What are you talking about? We've been in a recession for 8 years
now. Don't you read the news?

In all seriousness, I have to ask, if we're heading into a recession,
damaging the US auto industry is going to help that... how?

You know, tough times are going to come along from time to time no
matter what we do, and every time they do, the government will use
that as an excuse to dig the claws in a little deeper. What bothers
me is the panicky reaction we're already seeing from people when we're
not even in a recession yet, or if we are, a very shallow one at this
point. What happens when things really do get bad?

how will it hurt the auto industry.

Umm, by damaging even further the most profitable sector of US auto
sales?

they keep losing market share becausae they won't adjust to the market.
have you ever noticed all the foreign cars on our roads. people buy
them because there are no comparable american made cars worth the
money.

Yes, and how many of those foreign car manufacturers have to deal with
unionized labor? Even their suppliers are non-unionized, because as
soon as they organize, they get dropped like a hot potato.

its not the price its the quality.
and quite a lot of toyotas and hindas are made here.
the biggest advantage foreign companies have is they don't have to pay
for worker health care. they have national healrh care systems whereas
we force out companies to pay it.

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe forcing companies to pay it isn't
smart either? That's one of the many problems with the health care
system -- that it's become a standard means of compensation.

And yeah, I know your way of discussing subjects. You'll say that if I
don't support laws that force employers to offer health care (which has
nothing to do with work, by the way), then that must mean I'm against
health insurance.

go try to buy healrh insurance on your own.
i got very sick years back and was hospitalizedfor 2 months and had 3 major
and a few minor operations.
my bills ran into the 6 figures, if i didn't have post office provided
health care i'd have been ruined.
