With everyone running out to interview these guys to see what theirI have to laugh at those who say 16-0 will mean "nothing" if they don't
thoughts are, one has to wonder, who gives a crap? These guys are
ancient, and from a totally different era. They are either sore losers
and can't even bring themselves to give a compliment, or they are
graceful about the Pats completing an undefeated season...either way,
who cares?
go all the way...foolishness. It's an immense record along with the
multitude of other individual records set including most regular season
games (19 now). As a combination, 19-0 will be damned impressive, but
not getting it doesn't erase 16-0.
Add all those records together with the three SB they already
have...they are the best...especially playing under a salary cap.
I could not disagree more. The ultimate goal of every team at the start
of the season is to win the SB. If the Pats don't get there, they will
have had a great season but not as great as whoever wins the SB in their
place. The 16-0 will be diminished relative to history, not relative to a
great year. I liken it to all of Marino's records (which seem to be
continually falling) as they were all very impressive, but the lack of
the SB diminished them somewhat...enough to take him out of consideration
as the best QB of all time. Had he won 2 or 3 SBs, he would have retired
as possibly the best ever. I am on tangent here, but the point is, in
view of history, an undefeated regular season with a playoff loss
absolutely pales in comparison to an undefeated season (SB included).
Sure it pales in comparison...but the lack of 19-0 doesn't ERASE the
16-0...that's what some are insinuating...
It puts it in the category of the Bills 4 straight SB losses. Somewhere
lost in the fact that they choked 4 times was the fact that they had 4
incredible seasons in a row, despite not being able to finish the job.
