at some point in life, the child becomes responsible for his own actions.
It is impossible to try & control a stubborn child over the age of 18. I
have a 17 yr old. While trying to make him obey simple rules like curfew,
I have taken away his car, cell phone, Ipod, computer, & all privileges.
This only seems to make want him to move away faster. He says when he
turns 18 he's gone.
Please explain my options & then tell me how I should be responsible for
his actions.
I agree with you totally about the child becoming responsible for his own
actions. What I can't help wonder is how aware were his parents about the
problems their son had. He was put into a mental clinic and evaluated as a
danger to himself and others. His school knew he was "stalking" or harassing
female students, and he had a teacher who was so distressed by him that she
was willing to resign rather than teach a class with him in it.
Did the school at the very least notify his parents that their son was
displaying seriously disturbed behavior? Did the mental clinic notify them?
If not, why? If so, what if anything was done to either get him counseling
or to remove him from the school so he wouldn't be a danger to anyone else
there?
I think that if a student gets a mental eval that says he's a danger to
himself and/or others, then that person should immediately be withdrawn from
school and placed under some form of care. What involvement did his parents
have with this process? I hope we don't find out that they knew how fucked
up he was and didn't try to do anything to get him counseling or remove him
from the campus. If you or I knew that our son was a seriously disturbed
person we'd do everything we could to help him and make sure he didn't hurt
himself of anyone else. Right?
