Actually, I'm with Lark on this one. There's really not much point in
sticking around here. Maybe things will clear up a bit by draft time?
Not that I'm a heavy contributer (particularly now that I don't really
run around correcting people's quoting habits!) but the only reason
I still fire up this NG is pretty much a few of you folks combined w/
me really disliking web forums. Usenet is just so much more convenient
for me as I can read it pretty easily/quickly in a console window.
the best of both worlds, someone to keep things on topic and screen the
truly obnoxious, and viewing the Usenet way with thread trees. I just
hate the web based deal where you have to open the thread page up, dig
around in it for a minute, maybe open another page, just to find out if
someone answered you or someone else. its not bad now that most all of
us have DSL or better, but I still dislike opening multiple pages to get
the jest of an evolving topic, for that, nothing beats newsreaders.
Agreed. The main reason I prefer usenet is because of the newsreader.
Another forum I frequent is a web-based forum, and every time there's an
update to a thread I've marked it sends me an email. Then I have to click
the link and see what's been send, and then perform housekeeping on my inbox
afterwards. Newsreaders make life a lot easier.
But I wonder if some of these web-based forums could somehow manage to
provide RSS feeds that could mimic the newsreader format?
I visit many NG's and use them to gain info on almost any topic I am
currently interested in and I can tell you most NG's have collective
control over this crap, many just won't tolerate the behavior of a
person like Stan. you soon realize they have some loosely set charter,
some very set in stone. you go to the Jets ng for instance, anytime
somebody brings up politico bull*** it gets pushed aside with the same
zeal we attach RedSux talk around here. plus, I have always felt that
its in the OT stuff that makes enemies of brother against brother so to
speak, which over time the developing sidebar animosities hurt the ebb
and flow of Pats talk. the trolls are one thing and the just plain
ignorant cocksuckers, they are a given and come and go, but to let
people like Stan set the agenda of this place to me is a pretty sad
statement about all of us with a true interest to meet and talk about
one of our most favorite avocations, the Patriots.
so why do you participate in off topic posts?
it can be done if
the collective wanted it so, but I guess we're too weak.
I agree. And I won't play innocent here. Occasionally I can't take his
prostheletizing, and I have an uncontrollable urge to point out what a
fascist moron he is.
If I am a facist moron then you must be a liberal idiot!
But for the most part I try to avoid responding to
that crap and I wish others would at least make an attempt. Although at
this point I'm not sure it would make a difference.
whats good for one is good for all, if others can post off topic I will also.
unless you want to discriminate............
barnabas posts off topic as much as I do if not more
taske the blinders off loser!
I know some folks believe that this newsgroup started going to hell when the
Pats started winning Super Bowls, but as you pointed out, the trolls tend
not to be persistent enough for that to be the case (except maybe for
mrdude). The reality of the situation is that this newsgroup has been
almost single-handedly ruined by KonaStan.
bull***..............are you obsessed with me or what?
And while I tend to agree with
the sentiment that the group is unmoderated and should remain so, his
actions should be the lone exception.
fair is fair you and your clique leave - I'll leave.
He changes his username on almost a
daily basis making it impossible to killfile him;
blame it on the professor
he spent a portion of
time literally spamming the group at one point;
bull***!
6 posts isnt spamming the group to death!
you are just a snivelling whining liberal!
grow a pair and be a man for a change
and despite his promises he
still spent considerable time posting off-topic crap even during the season.
I know that Scott G., who I like and respect, seems to like him -- but as
far as I'm concerned, this place would be a lot better off without KonaStan.
why dont you bitch at the other people in this group who give me crap for posting patriot or football articles?
you like their politics more than mine eh!
