Mostly true, but explain "I, Robot." I'm not exaggerating one bit when I
say the only thing it had in common with the original work was the title
and the names of some of the characters (and the obligatory three laws).
That is another reason why I completely differentiate a movie from a book
when seeing a film adaptation. If we wanted to criticize inconsistencies
from a book to a movie, the list would be endless. I am sure Superman
Returns will differ from the comic book (in fact, anyone who has seen the
Superman trailer gets hit square in the face with a MAJOR inconsistency from
the comic). Hell, even the comic books themselves undergo evolution with
regards to a character's origins and powers. If we're talking Batman and
Superman, we're talking about characters created almost 70 years ago. Even
the X-Men are over 40. And how many countless artists and writers have done
those characters over the years, each adding or subtracting whatever they
figured they would..?
A movie made in 2006 cannot possibly be expected to be completely consistent
with characters created 40 years ago (X-Men) or almost 70 years ago
(Superman, Batman).
