If it's a roster bonus, I would think so.

even if they paid him the whole slew is would only use an additional
4.66 mill prorate cap space, there's 17-18 mill cap sitting there right
now. also, I doubt they give him all of it because why would they bother
putting in the language to divide it up since it all has to be done by
March of next years anyway, unless they plan on 2 payments. more than
likely, in Aug, they give him the 6.66 1st installment that decreases
the cap by 1.67 mill.

--------------------------
The key is the option bonus. Pasquarelli reported that it's split into
two parts -- $6.66 million in one part and $12 million in another part.
The $6.66 million, Pasquarelli reports, can be paid any time between
Aug. 3 and next March. The second part is due by next March.

so after rookies, there will still be another 10 mill or so cap space
which, btw, is tons more than BB ever had to work with since he came to
the Pats. more likely, if they can't find post draft, Aug FA's they want
then it gets used for a Branch extension with bonus, but the front load
salary for a big portion of whatever is left. also, I wouldn't put it
past them to use the Gorin maneuver (misrepresenting the LTBE/NLTBE's)
of a few years back on someone to push some of that cap space into next
year.

IF they pay him the 12M part of the roster bonus, then it's not a
"prorated bonus", it all hits the cap in one year, doesn't it? So if
they pay it in late 2006, then it's part of the 2006 cap. All of it,
not just a portion.
