I dont think we can protect the equipment. When simple static electricity
can destroy a semiconductor a EMP can do much worse damage.

Some where hopefully, the US government has a room full of vacuum tube
equipment. Thats the ONLY stuff that will survive an EMP.

Russia and China! WE stopped almost all production about 15-20 yrs ago.

And what on earth do you think we could actually do with vacuum tube
circuits? Build an Athlon with a few billion? It'd generate enough heat
to
warm the northern half of Alaska. If you think Russia's gonna take a few
Sovteks, hook them up to some transformers, and be back and running, then
YOU'RE the one who needs to do the research, not Quigon.


Vacuum tubes are still being used in many parts of the world. Like in some
of the MIG's produced by Russia which are the best jet fighters in the
world. Their pilots are not the greatest but their fighter jets are damn
good.

Then again, tv and radio trnasmitters are still using mostly tubes. I have
yet to see a 5,000 watt transmitter that uses one semiconductor.

you cant build a desktop computer with tubes, thats obvious but for
communications purposes transmitters and receivers can still be all tube
and work like a champ. Cant say the same for a solid state device if we get
hit with an EMP.
